My first time meeting Shelley Irwin was as a guest on her WGVU morning radio show. I was just a few months into launching Grumpy Pups Pet Photography as a business, and I was in awe of the remarkable business women surrounding me.
One year later, I find myself in awe again as I get to know Shelley Irwin behind the scenes on a photo shoot for Dogs Unleashed magazine. This is a woman who has a successful career, is out supporting the community and charitable events several nights a week, trains for marathon—and still has time to come home to love on her three Jack Russell Terriers. Petie, Leah and Ralph, all of whom were adopted from shelters, are lucky enough to be the center of Shelley’s universe—and they know a side of Shelley that few in the public ever get to see.
Read the full story on Shelley and her dogs in the March/April issue of Dogs Unleashed (which just came out today!). In the meantime, here are a few outtakes from our photo session.
Ralph gets a hug from his favorite person in the world.
Ralph cuddles with Shelley during the Dogs Unleashed interview.
Just moments after getting home from work, Shelley has her dogs outside in the beautiful sunshine.
To keep walks manageable, Shelley typically splits up the dogs and takes several walks a day.
Leah, who is a Terrier mix, yawns to let me know that stopping a walk for a photo opportunity is not appreciated.
Petie seems to be leader of the pack, despite his small size. It’s a Terrier thing.
Petie makes off with his prize before the other two can catch him.
