The title of this post has a lot of meaning for my session with this gorgeous girl. First, she’s a Golden Retriever, so that makes sense. Also, the day of the shoot had the most beautiful golden light, which was all the more remarkable for being early February in Michigan. Finally, Aspen is reaching her golden years, and now was a great time to capture her grace and beauty as keepsakes for years to come. Aspen has a young and loving spirit, but her hips are giving her trouble. Even though I didn’t ask her to run or jump or doing anything strenuous, our hour-long session was more than enough activity for her. (And as you’ll see, she couldn’t help but get in a few puppy-like leaps – the day was just too beautiful not to!)
Can you believe the grass can look this green in February? I was way too warm in my sweatshirt and Aspen was panting slightly in the sun. A day like this is such a gift and I couldn’t ask for a better way to spend it.
To save Aspen’s hips, we didn’t travel far. All the shots were taken in her yard, which luckily provided several different backgrounds.
As I was working with Daisy (blog and photos to come!), Aspen disappeared around the house. I heard her coming back and could tell she was running, so I dropped to my knees, snapped off a few frames, and was thrilled to have captured what is an increasingly rare sight. Aspen is running for the pure joy of it here, despite the hip pain it would cause her later. Just look at that smile!
Thanks for letting me share this beautiful day with you, Des and Aspen!
